Educational Theatre Workshops

My child was incredibly nervous when I dropped him off for his first day at HSC–I almost couldn’t convince him to go. He greeted me at the end of that first day with a huge smile and said he wasn’t ready to leave yet. He went back for several summers running. HSC’s approach to theater was wonderful for him. Carissa and the other counselors nurtured his love of performance, while also directly addressing his fear of failure. They supported all of the kids in the lifetime art of making mistakes gracefully. They encouraged the kids’ creativity, storytelling skills, and teamwork. We were lucky to find this camp and to have had Carissa be the person to introduce him to theater.”

  1. Is there a summer camp that takes place in Amherst? The summer camp program guide says it takes place in both Amherst and Easthampton. Thanks

    • Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to us. We offer two summer camp programs. The first is a series of week-long workshops for a variety of ages, which takes place in Easthampton. If you have questions about those, you can email Steve Henderson at slcomedy@comcast.net. Anyone can participate in these, and at the end of each week there will be a sharing for family and friends.
In Amherst, we have a program called “Young Company”, where actors aged 13 to 18 take two weeks in August to put on a production of Romeo and Juliet, that they then perform as part of our summer season. This program is audition-based. For more information, please email hampshire.shakespeare.company@gmail.com.
      Thank you!
